When I sit down to do a blog post or video, I ask myself what has come to my attention recently that really struck a chord in me and I think would benefit others? I put myself into a meditative  state of mind and wait for the answer. This morning, I realized the very act of doing this could be the subject I want to address! Is it new? As the saying goes, there is nothing new under the sun. Is it new to you? Maybe. Maybe my approach to this topic will ignite an aha for you. I hope so.

The intuitive, creative process is truly amazing. I wrote a book about it more than 15 years ago titled Finding Your Authentic Voice. At the core of this process is learning how to let go and allow your intuitive mind to come forth with a new approach, insight, or information. I share seven practices to ignite this process. For a time as a professional speaker, this was my signature speech. I’ll never forget standing in front of 200 or so left-brain-oriented actuarial and accounting professionals speaking about how they can access their right-brain intuition and creativity. That was an experience!

Perhaps some of them thought this was too “woo-woo.” It’s not. It’s deeply embedded and validated through the neuroscience of how our brains work. Our most cherished goals and aspirations, and most creative solutions, do not come from the rational parts of our brains, but rather the intuitive. Successful, visionary business leaders like Steve Jobs and Jeff Bezos have spoken about the need to trust their intuitive minds to drive their visions. One of the greatest scientists, Albert Einstein, said: “The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.”

To tap into this intuitive, creative mind and hear this voice, it’s necessary to do the work of clearing out our negative thoughts and feelings. We might also need to stir the creative pot more than once. Stopping, waiting and listening are essential actions. Fortunately, even in our crazy, instant-gratification world, we can all do this!

Here are the seven practices:

  • Practice One: Get into the present.
  • Practice Two: Know what you want to create or express.
  • Practice Three: Ask yourself how you feel and let yourself feel it.
  • Practice Four: Look at and accept “what is” to find your place of peace.
  • Practice Five: Shift out of normal to experience new possibilities.
  • Practice Six: Pay attention to what happens within and without.
  • Practice Seven: Move with the energy that brings you joy.

I describe these practices and give examples in my book, which is way more than I can go into here. If you’d like to learn more, please connect with me at andrea@andreabeaulieu.com.

I have spent a lifetime connecting with this intuitive creative mind professionally and personally, as a coach, speaker, writer, singer, leader, mom, friend, and girlfriend/wife. It takes a bit of trial and error to discern this voice from the constant mind chatter, and it’s worth it! I have learned to trust this intuitive, creative voice. It has never ceased to amaze me with its simplicity and truth. If you’re interested in discovering this for yourself, I’d love to support you.
