If So, You Could Be a Regular Guy/Gal, Lover or Jester.
“Perhaps the underlying reason that archetypes are so enduring is that, in essence, they reflect our inner realities and struggles. The external particulars may vary, but the essential journey is always the same.” Margaret Mark and Carol S. Pearson, The Hero and The Outlaw
Today, I’m introducing you to three more archetypes — those purveyors of meaning that transcend any differences we might have in experience, country or culture.
Instead of worrying about having an impact on the world, the person who connects to the Regular Guy/Gal, Lover and Jester ponders these questions: Am I likable? Will people accept me? How do I find true love?
People attracted to these archetypes want to connect. They want to share their lives with others in a way they value. They want to belong. If your organization provides a means for people to do this, one of these might be your archetype.
The Regular Guy/Gal: Also known as the good old boy, the regular Jane, the Everyman, the common man, or solid citizen, the Regular Guy/Gal wants to belong and fit in. He or she fears rejection and wants to connect with others.
The Lover: Also known as partners, friends, intimates, sensualists, team builders, the lover fears being alone or unwanted, and wants to attain intimacy and experience pleasure.
The Jester: Also known as the fool, joker, entertainer, practical joker or comedian, the jester fears boredom or being boring, and wants to live in the moment with full enjoyment.
To begin the journey to discover your archetype, reflect on these questions:
- How does your tribe hold you in their hearts and minds?
- How do you want them to?
- What do you notice about what you do and how you do it that could lead you to your archetype?
Aligning with an archetype is a powerful move. Incorporating it into your brand establishes you authentically in the hearts and minds of your community. And, it feels good, because it represents your values and the difference you make.
I’m privileged to work with individuals and organizations to discover their brand archetype and bring their brand to life through their messaging. I’d love to help you! Email me here for more info!
